Projection1 – Week 1

My exploration this week focused on quick research into Romanticism and experiments with typography’s organic quality.

insightful ideas introduced by the Romanticism movement in litterature
Some thoughts about the questions proposed in the brief

Studio experiment n.1

While reading the essay The Pear in History, Literature, Popular Culture, and Art, I tried to quickly translate different names of pear in Latin languages using typography, engaging in a subjective and less rational process. (Drawing a pear based on the first impression of the pronunciation of a name and creating a quick organic typography based on the visual features of the scribble)

Studio experiment n.2

Carrying on the process of collecting and cropping, I quickly collected some pear-related images and looked for interesting compositions in them by cropping, then created typography out of these combinations.

Studio experiment n.3

One minor experiment to visually translate a metaphor of the pear in literature.

Feedbacks and reflection

  • Fruit labels: could be a more specific graphic form to experiment with.
  • Identifying a specific audience and the situation to approach them helps shaping the particular form/language to a project.
  • Location-specific: what might Holloway Road bring to the following exploration?
  • Line of enquiry updated:
